Briarcliffe Manor has again been named a top nursing home in the country by US News and World Report for both short and long term care!
US News and World Report, the global authority in health care rankings and consumer advice evaluated nearly 15,000 U.S. nursing homes that offer either short- or long-term care for its 2026 rankings. Fewer than 19% of the U.S. nursing homes evaluated earned a high-performing ranking in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, or both.
Each nursing home’s performance was scored using 17 distinct measures that captured post-acute care quality, nurse staffing consistency and patient-centered outcomes.
Each nursing home’s performance was scored using a variety of quality measures obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The ratings also factored in resident care, safety, outcomes and other aspects of quality, including data on nurse staffing levels, consistency and retention, as well as use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing emergency room visits.
Each nursing home that was rated in short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, or both received an overall rating based on a five-point scale that averages the short- and long-term scores, weighing each equally, in which High Performing received a value of 5, Average received a value of 3 and Below Average received a value of 1.
Other national findings in the report included:
U.S. News Best Nursing Homes provide 20% more total staffing per resident per day compared with the national average.
Top-performing skilled nursing facilities offer 80% more physical therapy per resident per day than the national average.
Top-rated nursing homes have a 15% lower rate of hospitalizations for long-term residents compared with the national average.
Rehab patients at the highest-performing skilled nursing facilities have a 33% lower rate of emergency room visits compared with the national average.
